About This Course
Approximately ten million children every year witness domestic violence in their homes.
On average one in four women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime and at least half of these individuals have a minor child in their home, and that child is attending school.
This online academy is for today’s educator, who is not only addressing their students' academic success; you also often navigating the behaviors in the classroom that are signs of secondary trauma.
The “Working With Children and Youth Academy” is designed for educators teaching elementary through high school.
Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council is collaborating with subject matter experts in domestic violence to bring you technical assistance, strategies and education about domestic violence.
The topics include and are not limited to:

- Introduction to Trauma
- Adverse Childhood Experience
- Creating a Trauma Informed Classroom

Autoosa Abadi is a Houston-based Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She works at Daya as a Senior Counselor and Site Supervisor, providing direct services to empower South Asians who have experienced domestic and sexual violence.
