This academy is designed for helping professionals, such as social workers, counselors, law enforcement, and healthcare providers, to understand the signs and effects of domestic and intimate partner violence. Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and interactive activities, participants will learn how to recognize and respond to individuals affected by this type of violence.

Upon completion of each of the different courses, participants will have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide compassionate and effective support to individuals experiencing domestic and intimate partner violence, along with other topics related to this type of trauma.

Working With Children & Youth Academy


Approximately ten million children every year witness domestic violence in their homes.

On average one in four women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime and at least half of these individuals have a minor child in their home, and that child is attending school.

This online academy is for today’s educator, who is not only addressing their students' academic success; you also often navigating the behaviors in the classroom that are signs of secondary trauma.

The “Working With Children and Youth Academy” is designed for educators teaching elementary through high school.

Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council is collaborating with subject matter experts in domestic violence to bring you technical assistance, strategies and education about domestic violence.
